Bolt Seal Tampering Scheme Exposed at Auburn Fulfillment Center

Last week, staff at a major fulfillment center in Auburn, Washington discovered that bolt seals had been illegally swapped on multiple high-value outbound shipments while the cargo was still inside the facility.

This sophisticated tampering occurred in a controlled environment, raising serious concerns about internal security protocols. Criminals or insiders replaced the original bolt seals with counterfeit ones in an attempt to make the loads appear legitimate during transit.
Because the tampering happened before the trailers left the yard, it could have easily gone undetected until the cargo reached its final destination — or never reached it at all.
Seal tampering remains one of the most effective methods used by organized theft rings because it allows them to divert or steal cargo without immediately raising suspicion.

At TruckWarden, we help warehouse teams and fulfillment centers across the country reduce these risks through our Cargo Theft Prevention Training Certificate. Effective cargo security training covers proper seal inspection, verification procedures, and recognizing early signs of tampering before loads ever leave the facility.
Strong internal processes combined with well-trained staff are the best defense against this type of inside threat.
Stay vigilant and always verify your seals.
